Dogs in Varanasi

Varanasi is a mixed bag for dog-lovers. On the one hand, whereas in other cities I'd seen lots of nursing mother dogs, but very few actual pups, Varanasi was chock full o' puppies. On the other hand, I saw a lot more dogs that were clearly sickly and uncared for. I saw one dog lying by the side of the road with a marigold garland around its neck; I thought it was cute, and was going to take a photograph of it, when Jack told me it was dead. Hence the marigolds.
